SUNPHADE offers dynamic solar control films to improve windows in buildings and vehicles. Can be used to:
• Retrofit old window
• Produce new windows
When the sun shines, the film darkens to reduce glare and heat; like sunglasses. When there is no sun, it clears back; like normal glasses.
REMOVES GLARE
Glare is a major problem solved by SUNPHADE. By adapting to the intensity of sunlight, it gives a glare-reduced window that enhances comfort.
REDUCE THE NEED FOR BLINDS
Solving the glare problem also reduces the need and cost for blinds. With SUNPHADE, you keep the view, have more comfort, and save money for dark blinds.
LOWER ENERGY DEMAND
Less energy spent on air-conditioning is a critical requirement to meet reduced CO2 emission standards. SUNPHADE reduces the need for air-conditioning, saves money, and add comfort.
SUNPHADE does not use electricity to work; it only needs the sun!
Sunphade AS is a small startup established in 2018 to commercialize an invention by the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), Norway. In cooperation with IFE, we have lifted the readiness level of the technology and aim to place it in the market in 2023. IFE is a prominent institute with 600 employees, 1 billion in turnover, more than 25 advanced laboratories, and more than 200 international projects.
The new material yttrium oxyhydride (YHO) was invented at IFE in 2011. The material darkens on exposure to sunlight and returns to a clear state in the absence of light. It is a new class of photochromic technology that can be produced and installed at a low cost. The technology is based on a thin metallic oxide nanolayer applied (sputtered) onto glass or plastic. The technology has reached TRL 7 and is expected to reach TRL 9 (full commercial product) in 2023.
