University of Oslo
Sunphade partnered with the University of Oslo (UiO) to explore the potential of dynamic solar control. In November 2024, our solar film was installed on selected windows to improve indoor comfort, reduce energy use, and maintain clear views—without altering the building’s design.

Smart Solar Control for a Better Campus Environment
The Challenge
UiO faced glare, heat buildup, and fluctuating indoor temperatures in buildings with large glass surfaces. Traditional solutions, such as blinds and static window films, were either ineffective or blocked natural light and outdoor views. The university needed a solution that improved indoor conditions without compromising aesthetics or usability.
The Solution
Our solar film was applied to selected windows. Unlike mechanical shading, Sunphade preserves natural daylight and views while reducing glare and heat—enhancing the learning and working environment.
The Results
The integration of Sunphade at the University of Oslo resulted in:
- More comfortable indoor spaces for students and staff
- Less glare and heat buildup, improving focus and well-being
- Lower reliance on artificial cooling, reducing energy use
"Sunphade can address a need for which we currently lack good solutions." — Leif Johnny Johannesen, Director Of Planning & Projects At UIO
